The midifier program that comes with the ultrasound software claims in it's docs that aftertouch does get recognized by the GUS. Can someone with a midi controller that has aftertouch verify this for me? I have a midi horn that uses aftertouch for expression i.e. you blow harder it gets louder and vice versa. This is obviously a necessity for a midi horn. However, the GUS does not respond to this, at least not when using patch manager. Am I doing something wrong? Kevin p.s. This occurs when the program attempts to load patches. Don't ask me why, but this is somehow related to your graphics card. (I have a Diamond Speedstar 24x). If you run a vesa utility (I used VESA1D), then run descent, the problem is cleared up. Sound+ music work perfectly. No memory allocation errors on exit. I have updated my Gravis software regularly without any great hassle and I thought that this was the case with 3.59 until I noticed the following problem: On FIRST loading WfW 3.11 when I use File Manager I cannot change which drive File Manager is 'looking' at by clicking on the drive icon. Except that if I then click on a file or directory the dive will change to the drive that I just tried to select. In addition if I try to scroll the list of files or directories using the scroll button the list scrolls only a small amount unless I keep clicking on the scroll button ie no smooth, continuous scrolling. If I then close WfW down and restart it everything is back to normal, weird is it not. The same thing happens every time I switch on or do a cold or warm reboot. Nothing else appears to be affected. The problem is so annoying that I have gone back to a previous version of the Gravis software. Anyone else noticed this problem? From messages I've seen, the GUS doesn't work at all under Windows 95 (Beta 2). I haven't had a chance to try it myself... Glad to see that I'm not the only one having these problems. Here's what I ended up doing. I enabled the joystick port on my SBPro and disabled the one on the GUS. Then I tried to use sound from the GUS and the joy port from the SBPro. The joystick goes crazy. Then I tried using midi music from the GUS and effects from the SBPro. Even using loadpat -l which is supposed to leave line-in enabled, I didn't get the sound from the SBPro (which is routed through the GUS). The joystick was OK though. Then I tried the opposite. Effects from the GUS and music from the SBPro (yech!). The Joystick went wacky again and I got no music coming through the line-in from the SBPro. So, to sum it all up, if I could get the GUS to let sound through from the SBPro, I could use the GUS for music and the SBPro for effects and the joystick would be ok. But like I said, loadpat -l does not leave line-in enabled like it should. Either that or line-out is not enabled. There's no switch in loadpat for that. Driving seems unimpaired, and menus work using the keyboard instead. Perhaps if you are having trouble with Nascar and your GUS you might want to try this. The GUS has a vast advantage over the PC, because recording can be done into the RAM banks on the card and played back from those RAM banks -- possibly through more than one channel at a time, mixed by the GF1 on the GUS. Since the timing and amplitude of each channel can be set without actually performing any calculations on the wave, you can get a whole host of effects. This is just what Apollo does. Take a look at apollo.zip. I tried it out and i was pretty impressed, but i noticed a problem: do any of you notice that the echoes are played back higher in pitch than the original sound? It's pretty obvious on my GUS (it's a GUS Max) -- really short delay periods with feedback cause the echoes to sweep up the scale. Though for echoes this is generally bad, it's still another example of how you can get a different kind of interesting effect on the GUS by intentionally setting the pitch, without the PC ever having to do any thinking. Chorus shouldn't be too hard to implement... Baskin) Subject: Win95 People... Hey y'all, I'm an OS/2 Warp user at the moment, and i'm very impressed by its native and DOS abilities. For people experimenting with Win95, i have a few questions... I have heard that some of you can't get the Win31 drivers for the GUS to work. I can't help you there, but it'd be nice to be able to use a few of the WinGUS apps (mainly patchmanager and MidiSoft). My question is how well DOS GUS software works in Win95 DOS sessions (without quitting everything). Does GUS sound work on most games? (Doom/Heretic, OMF, etc.) How well does midiplay work? Or Iplay, etc.? Does SBOS/MegaEM crash the system? In OS/2 all games by Epic work with full sound. Games based on Id basework like Doom, Heretic don't work with digital. (Except Doom 1.2) Iplay and MidiPLay bothwork well. And both sets of GUS drivers work well. I prefer the Manley drivers for the VDD support (Hey Gravis, talk to this man and work on combining his VDD with your set...). In reality, i don't miss the Win apps too much, there is quite a bit of OS/2 MMOS/2 stuff running around the net. Since i'm willing to give MS a fair shot at being the next OS on my computer, i'd like any info on how well this kind of stuff works, DOS being the most important. Thanks Oh, yea.
