While ftp'ing a few stray issues isn't a problem, ftp'ing > them all is a BIG problem. What is the use of a mailing list > otherwise? I'm sorry, I think I stated things wrong. If you just miss one or two digests, it may be because of several reasons: 1] No digests are sent out if there is no input to generate one. (This happens often on the SDK list, and on occasionally to all the lists on weekends.) 2] Systems between the mailer and you may be temporarily down; obviously, there's not a lot I can do about this. 3] There's a problem with the mailer, and nobody is getting digests. This is pretty obvious from my point of view, so you can bet I already know and am working on it. 4] More are left as an exercise to the reader. :) What I meant was that if you miss a digest or two, please don't email me about it. Check the FTP site instead to see if the latest issue arrived there. If you miss more than that, then go ahead and mail me; it's probably an isolated problem I haven't seen, and will be more than happy to fix. :) -- Dave ddebry@ debry@ \ DeBry dsd. peruvian. | "First I was a hippie, then I was a es. cs.utah. | stockbroker, now I am a hippie again." com edu / ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Mar 1994 10:26:52 +0000 (GMT) From: Toby Subject: Doom & 50 Mhz I have not got a 50Mhz machine but have experience a similar problem. I have a 33Mhz 486 VLB and have DOOM 1.2. Everything ran fine till I read some article saying you could change the number of simultaneouse SFX by editing the Doom.cfg file. So I had a fiddle and changed it from 4 to 9. Loaded up Doom, got hold of a plasma gun and let rip. After a few shots my machine hung and the GUS played its samples. After reducing the parameter down to 4 again I havehad no problems. This may not be anything to do with the problem you are having but I may be worth reducing the number of SFX channels used. Microsoft and BAO have released a major patch disk now available at Compuserve and the main FS ftp archive (ftp.iup.edu). I understand it can also be obtained free of charge (?) from Microsoft via their (800) 426-9400 order line. This patch is 1.4Mb and supposedly fixes many bugs, including an increase in frame rate. We can only hope the soundcard support is better as well. I've only JUST obtained the patch and haven't tested it yet. More to come... However, I recently discovered that the patches I uploaded to Epas have been deleted and are nowhere to be found on the mirrors. Francois also had problems with his patches going missing as well. Can the security at Epas be tightened a bit? For example, use GUS base address 240h GUS DRAM and Recording DMAs both on channel 7 GUS GF1 IRQ on 11 GUS SB/MIDI IRQ on 12 (since you won't need to use SBOS) Then you should download the new ultrinit in gus0040 so that it floats the Adlib ports on the GUS to allow the TB to be recognized by software. > Another question: > > What files do I need to download from FTP sites so I will have the > latest version of all programs? On my DX2/66 I use 8.33 and it works, but the DX50 probably sped it up to 10 or something. Solution? Run your BIOS setup and under bus speed choose a slower setting (say, divide by 3). HTH! All the patches even fit onto 1 Meg. I dont have that song, but with the size of SOLOGUIT, there must have been just a flute or something... In any case, i'd suggest you take a look at ACGUIT which i uploaded quite a long time ago (last summer i think). It is about half the size, and with the midi files i've tried, it sounds closer to a real accoustic guitar (steel, but the release time should fit for both). > So here's my queston, are there any other .MIDs with great guitar parts? How can we see any answers to these questions without having to repeat the questions in order to get answers mailed to us? I've been reading various FAQ's but there seem to be more troubles here than are covered in those. I'm trying to head off the problems before getting mired down in them. There is quite probably a copy on the net somewhere, but in case you dont find it (not very surprising as it is copyrighted), you can get the GSBD version from Hal Leonard Publishing Corp as 08252887. That's of course sheet music that you'll have to enter... It's quite inexpensive however. An alternative is to get it from Roland. They have lots of midi file available, but it is expensive. I have some Midi songs sequenced on a Yamaha SY22, using a soundblaster, using Voyetra's Sequencer Plus Pro (which came with the SBpro). The sequenced music was to be played back thru the synthsiser. But recently i got a GUS, Gravis Ultrasound, which is a General Midi compliant device. I wish to port the Synth MIDI file to GenMidi but some of the Drum tracks do not match. AS such, i was wondering if anyone out there has any experience concerning this "porting" of MIDI music from Sy22 to GenMidi. If u do, please email me some info on how u map the drum tracks to their proper placements.... Please email me, cos the newsfeed i am getting here is flaky at best. thanks in advance ! cheers Jerry /------------------------------------------------------------------------\ | <<<<<<>>>>>> Email: kohkhang@iscs.nus.sg | | MSwin, GUS & Scout+ Terbo User, Fanatic Gamer, DOOMer, BT, ST & SW fan | \------------------------------------------------------------------------/ ------------------------------ Date: 4 Mar 94 12:16 -0700 From: Shawn Smith Subject: TEK ult files There were some 16bit ult files that showed up on the submit dir on epas a while ago.
