Use the following for your ultrinit line in your autoexec.bat: d:\audio\ultrasnd\ultrinit -l -o -ej Replace the path with your own. The -l and -o switches turn on the line in and enables the GUS' output. The -ej switch enables the joystick port on rev 3.4 GUSes (use -dj if you'd rather have the game port disabled). I don't have SC2000, so I don't know which specific files you need to copy the drivers over top of, but the readme with the drivers explains the process quite well. > Also, When I installed the new 3.1 software, and ran windows, > It never created a new GroupIcon, so I have NO idea what new > window routines are there. Have you tried any other games with it? > Also, does having more memory on the GUS improve the sound effects for > games, or does it primarily help with music files and composition, etc.?? More memory on the GUS allows Mega-Em to load more samples onto the GUS and thus achieve a closer approximation of the GM set. More memory also allows games with native support to use more instruments, if needed. SBOS was designed for a 256kB GUS, so extra memory probably would not help it. > Date: Fri, 4 Feb 94 17:38:51 PST > From: Scott Bobo > Subject: Re: GUS Daily Digest V5 #2 > > Hi all - I tried running Wing Commander II the other night and found that > after the first couple of words on speech at the beginning, the speech > stopped. If this is the IRQ you're using for either the GF1 or SB/MIDI IRQs, try switching to something else (IRQ 5 works well for me). > Date: Sat, 5 Feb 1994 08:08:19 -0800 (PST) > From: swoo@netcom.com (Sky Woo) > Subject: GUS demo of cavemen. > > The other day I was at Fry's Electronics and I saw a Gravis > Ultrasound setup with boxes of GUSes around a computer with a GUS in > the system. However, now as well as before, the sound associated with games (xwing, > wing commander, etc) is fine. Any suggestions, anyone? Bernie Mueller SB/MIDI IRQ conflicts and the dead MIDI port in Windows were due to an old ultrajoy bug with regard to rev 3.x GUSes. The new ultrajoy in gus0038.zip fixes these problems, in case you'd like to know why they went away. As for the current lack of MIDI output from the GUS' internal synth, just use the Restore File(s) options from within setup.exe to copy ultrasnd.ini from the gus0038 disks into your \ultrasnd directory. I would like to know whether anyone has heard of this before and knows if it will work. I haven't tried it yet, afraid that it might damage my card. What does it do anyway? Has anyone else experienced troubles with the new playfile in the GUS0038 upgrade file? Everytime I run it, whatever program I run after it locks my computer. (or causes a emm386 error and reboots). I had the playfile in my autoexec to play a wav at boot-up, and it took me awhile to figure out why everything was locking up after I upgraded to the new upgrade, playmidi was locking up, dmp was locking, and a few other things. Then I rem'd out the playfile from autoexec and all the above worked fine. I went to test out my theory, played a file with playfile, then tried playmidi, and it locked. Any one else have this problem, if not try it and let us know. Is there any other program for DOS that will play WAVs/SNDs/etc... I have GBLAST but I think that just does VOCs. Version 2.08 (which came with the 2.06 disk set) works fine as long as I have the synthesized engine sounds. But versions 3.7b2, 3.7 (out of gus0038.zip), and 3.8b2 (out of gus0037.zip) all cause hard lockups at the startup screen before any sounds are generated. It always requires a reset button restart -- ctrl-alt-del keys won't work. Any ideas what is causing this? I've had no other real problems with the GUS software. Since 2.08 is working, I'll stick with it unless someone has a working idea. FWIW, my system is a 386DX/33, 8MB RAM, SIS chipset, Chips CMOS, 1MB GUS on 7,7,11,7. 16bit DMA has been working just fine on software that supports it. It worked fine with DOS 5.0, which was around when Wing Commander II was released. When I tried the game recently (since it is still my all time favourite game), it gave me all sorts of weird problems...locking up, the joystick not working properly, weird memory allocation errors, and QEMM exception errors. I never went back and tried it with DOS 5.0 again, as I couldn't find the disks :-( However, I am quite sure DOS 6.0 was at fault, because the game had worked fine on the same machine, and the only thing that had changed was the DOS version. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ____ ___ ____ / \ / / \ / \ Paul Murgatroyd (s1114@kowande.Bond.edu.au) / / / / Student of Computing Science \----\ / / \----\ School of Information & Computing Science / / / / B O N D U N I V E R S I T Y \____/ / \___/ \____/ Gold Coast, Queensland, AUSTRALIA ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V11 #5 ******************************
